Stan Sher is editor and founder of Digital Guitar Player. Stan has been playing guitar since the age of twelve after getting inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Santana and Ten Years After. The funny this is that he was listening to these bands over 25 years after they had become popular. “I remember having VHS tapes of Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains The Same concert and the Woodstock movie. My grandmother purchased a Yamaha F310 acoustic guitar and I would jam along to these videos pretending to be Jimi Page, Santana and Alvin Lee” as he recalls.
As Stan started learning guitar more seriously he would get into bands like Deep Purple and Van Halen. It was at that time that he started listening to the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Dream Theater. His world was turned upside down as he convinced his parents to purchase the complete basic course from Metal Method. After studying this system for just one year he picked up some serious guitar skills. His peers would hear him play and get impressed. In fact, during his senior year of high school he was appreciated as a guitar player.
As life would have it Stan focused on going to school and building a career in sales and marketing because he did not see a certainty in becoming a professional musician. “I put my focus on paying my bills and making money even though people kept telling me I should be a musician” he says. He built a successful career in the automotive industry becoming a top selling professional and high level sales and marketing manager at various car dealerships. Stan eventually took an interest in public speaking and developing businesses and business professionals which enabled him to launch two consulting and training companies. However, his passion for music and guitar remains to be so strong that he decided to launch Digital Guitar Player.
Digital Guitar Player is a blog dedicated to sharing Stan’s passion and vision for guitar players and the guitar community. Stan is devoted to discussing his favorite music, guitar players and discoveries in the guitar world. This blog has three different types of guitar player of the month features because he wanted to make it a unique blog. He added that “YouTube has so much incredible talent both up and coming and musicians with an altered view that needs to be shared with the world even further”. When Stan is not working on his two businesses he is working on Digital Guitar Player and spending time with family and friends. He considers Digital Guitar Player to be an extension of his love and passion for the guitar.
